Tonight on Iranian state TV it was revealed that on the 17th of August, the electricity lines from the city of Qom to the Fordo nuclear plant were destroyed by explosives in order to “damage its centrifuges”.
The report then says that immediately afterwards IAEA inspectors asked for an unscheduled inspection at Fordo in order “to inspect the damage”.
According to the report the attempt against Fordo as well as the STUXNET virus are the reasons why the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) today accused the IAEA of “being infiltrated by terrorists“.
It’s unclear how much damage the attack against Fordo’s power lines caused.
This report is a clear sign that Iran’s nuclear sites are increasingly under attack.
Such attacks are likely to have domestic repercussions as they could be interpreted as a sign of weakness of the regime, especially that of its protector, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) which is in charge of protecting the nuclear sites.
