Interview with IAEA Director General on Iran

16 Jul

Yukiya Amano (right) is Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He replaced Mohammad El Bardei in July 2009 as the head of the organization.

For those who don’t know the organization, its part of the UN and its main task is described as the following:

The IAEA works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Its key roles contribute to international peace and security, and to the world’s Millennium Goals for social, economic and environmental development.

Amano recently gave a very interesting interview to the Russia Today about the IAEA’s dealings with Iran. Among the questions addressed are whether the IAEA would be able to detect Iran deciding to “breakout” in order to make a bomb, the impact of sanctions, as well as other related issues. Very interesting.
