I have spent the last two days attending the J Street conference in Washington DC.
Today I had the privilege of being on the Iran panel at the conference.
The consensus at the conference is that Rouhani must be given a chance. That he must be tested and I fully agree. I also added my voice and support to such calls. Not giving Rouhani a chance could be a strategic missed opportunity for the state of Israel.
Diplomacy is about getting the other side to do what you want. We have Iran at the table, seemingly ready to make compromises. This is what we want. Now let’s be smart about it by working with Rouhani to see if he does what we want. All within a time frame of course. Open ended negotiations must be avoided.
