I am looking forward to watching Davos this year

I am really looking forward to watching the debates at Davos this year live on the internet.

The type of panels which will be of interest are be ones which will host officials from several different countries. One panel in particular has already caught my eye.

Called: “The End Game for the Middle East”, this panel will take place on: Friday January 24, 2014. The panellists will be:

  • Ahmet Davutoglu- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey
  • Mohammad Javad Zarif- Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran
  •  Nasser Sami Judeh-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
  •  Masoud Barzani- President of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq
  • Ghassan Salamé – Dean, The Paris School of International Affairs, Institut d’Etudes Politiques, France
  • Richard N. Haass-President, Council on Foreign Relations, USA

The moderator will be:

  •  Rima Maktabi- Senior Anchor and Roving Correspondent, Al Arabiya, United Arab Emirates

I choose this panel (so far) as the one which looks most interesting because it will include a variety of politicians with differing views. The Iranians and the Jordanians are unlikely to agree on the question of what should happen to Assad. Meanwhile Israel’s old ally Barzani will have some interesting things to say about the question of Iraqi Kurdistan and its view towards the Syrian conflict. Most interesting to me will be how Barzani will address the question of the ceasefire between the PKK and the Turkish government.

I won’t be spending any time listening to special addresses by politicians such as Rouhani, Netanyahu or David Cameron. These are just monologues. Its pretty easy to guess what they are going to say.

Will let you know if I see any other interesting panels.
