According to FT Tehran correspondent Najmeh Bozorgmehr:
“If Iran and the world powers reach a nuclear deal and international sanctions are lifted, Iran’s tech sector, one of the world’s biggest untapped markets, will be one of the main sectors to watch, says.”
In the podcast below she talks to Iranian tech entrepreneurs about their hopes and concerns.
In my opinion, given the level of corruption within the regime, crackdowns against the internet and its users, and fear of Iranian expatriates from returning to Iran (just look at what happened to Jason Rezaian), even after the a deal, Iran’s tech sector is likely to face significant challenges. Only a small part of this sector’s untapped potential is likely to be exploited.
