One way to describe #Iran Guardian Council and the upcoming Assembly of Expert elections

One of the important tasks of the 12 member Guardian Council in Iran is to vet candidates for elections, including for the upcoming February Majles (parliamentary) and Assembly of Expert elections.

And how has the vetting process been so far for the Assembly of Expert elections?

Well, the Supreme Leader’s ally Ayatollah Jannati, the head of the Guardian Council who is in charge of allowing/disallowing other candidates to run in these elections is himself a candidate for the very same elections! And his goal is to make sure that the next Assembly is made up overwhelmingly of Conservative allies of the Supreme Leader.

Judging by the massive culling of candidates before the elections (including the grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini), in terms of making sure who “wins” the next elections, the February race for this Assembly can almost already be described as:
