Reformists are warning through Instagram (see below): conservatives are putting their names on the list of moderates for this Friday’s upcoming parliamentary elections in Iran.
The first round was held on February 25th.
The fact that Iranian conservatives are doing this is testament to the fact that the Moderates (an alliance of Rouhani supporters and reformists) have been successful at promoting their candidates through lists for each district. They then distributed such lists before the first round, especially through social media platforms such as Telegram.
This is one reason why in the first round, the Moderates and Reformists did better than expected and won around 38% of the parliamentary seats.
There is every possibility that they will do well in the next round too, although it could prove more difficult as many of the second round contests will be held in more provincial areas and towns where conservatives are believed to be stronger.
