Tonight I attended the graduation ceremony of graduate and post-graduate students at the Interdisciplinary Center at Herzliya (IDC) where I have been teaching the Iran course.
It was so exciting to see all my former students. I am so proud of them.
One student who I am particularly proud of is Gabriel Thon (right). He came here to Israel from South Sudan as a refugee, without any family. Tonight, alongside 6 other Israelis, we represented his family at the graduation ceremony. Could not be more proud of Gabriel for graduating, despite all the difficulties of being a refugee, and being so far away from his family, without knowing when he’ll see them again.
And I am proud of the IDC for fighting the Ministry of Interior tooth and nail in order to keep Gabriel in Israel.
Congratulations Gabriel and everyone else.
